There is no secret why the greater majority of professional drummers use maple shells for there kits. Maple drums possess the tonal warmth, tremendous rigidity and brilliant clarity throughout the tonal range that other drums just can't achieve. Taking the drums to the next step, we moved to low mass lugs and a single post tom mounting system to allow the mounted toms to sing to there potential. To create a bass drum that would kick with authority with little reverberation requiring minimal muffling,Vex utilized the use of two bass drum holes located on the bottom of the drum head spaced parallel to each other. The Vex Pro Maple has it all: excellent tone, superb finish, professional grade hardware, and the quality you would expect from any pro kit.

Wood and Thickness

Maple is a favorite wood used for drum shell construction. Its evenly distributed lows, highs and mid range frequencies makes it ideal for all around applications. Our maple is hand-selected to meet stringent requirements for proper density, age, and consistency of grain and color. The Vex Pro Maple Series features 8 ply Canadian Maple shells with 45 degree bearing edges which Vex found to be the most dynamic after an extensive testing period.

The number of plies effects how readily energy is transferred from the heads to the shell. This single factor has a profound affect on the tonal characteristics and projection of the drum.

T hick shells (8 ply, 10mm and10 ply, 12.5mm) are extremely "efficient" and allow most of the player's energy to be focused to the audience. These drums are ideal for coliseum-type venues and other applications requiring high sound pressure levels. Snare drums made in this thickness rival metal snare drums in intensity and projection.
